Frequently asked questions

Which marketplaces does this compare?

Etsy, eBay, Amazon and Shopify. Etsy, eBay and Amazon are open marketplaces that charge a selling fee, while Shopify is your own storefront where you mainly pay card processing. Comparing them shows the trade-off between built-in traffic and lower fees.

What fee model does each marketplace use?

Etsy: 6.5% transaction fee, a 0.20 listing fee, and 3% + 0.25 payment processing. eBay: about 13.25% final value fee plus 0.30 per order. Amazon: a 15% referral fee. Shopify: 2.9% + 0.30 card processing only, with no referral fee. Each percentage is charged on the item price plus the shipping you charge.

Why does Shopify usually look cheapest here?

Shopify has no marketplace referral fee, so you only pay card processing. The trade-off is that Shopify gives you no built-in shoppers: you bring your own traffic and pay for marketing, plus a monthly plan that is not modeled here. Marketplaces cost more per sale but include an audience.

Does the fee apply to the shipping I charge?

Yes. For all four marketplaces this tool charges the percentage fee on the item price plus the shipping you collect from the buyer, which matches how these platforms generally calculate fees. That is why adding shipping raises the fees, not just the payout.

Are these the exact fees I will be charged?

No. The rates are approximate seller fees as of 2026 and are starting points only. Real fees vary by category, country, store plan, currency conversion and promotions, and they change over time. Treat the results as estimates and confirm with each marketplace before pricing.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The comparison runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type, including your prices and costs, is uploaded or stored.
