Frequently asked questions
How is words per minute calculated?
WPM is the word count divided by the time in minutes. We convert your minutes and seconds to a total, divide, and round to the nearest whole number.
What is a good typing speed?
Under 30 WPM is beginner, 30 to 50 is average, 50 to 70 is fast and 70 or more is pro. Professional typists often exceed 65 to 75 WPM.
What is a good reading speed?
Average adult reading is roughly 200 to 250 WPM. Skimming can pass 400 WPM, while careful study reading is often slower, around 100 to 150 WPM.
How does it count words from pasted text?
It splits on spaces, tabs and line breaks and counts the non-empty chunks, so runs of whitespace do not inflate the total.
