Strikethrough Text Generator
Type any text and this tool inserts a Unicode combining mark after every visible character, so a line is drawn through, under or across each letter. Because the effect is baked into the characters themselves, the crossed out text keeps its look when you copy and paste it into places that offer no formatting button, such as a bio, a comment or a chat message. Spaces are left untouched so words stay readable.

Frequently asked questions
How does strikethrough text work without a formatting button?
The tool appends an invisible Unicode combining mark right after each letter. Strikethrough uses the Combining Long Stroke Overlay, underline uses the Combining Low Line, and slash uses the Combining Long Solidus Overlay. The font draws the line as part of the character, so no rich-text styling is needed and the effect travels with plain text.
Which styles can I choose?
Three: Strikethrough draws a horizontal line through each letter, Underline draws a line beneath each letter, and Slash draws a diagonal stroke across each letter. Pick one from the Style menu and the Result box updates instantly.
Where can I paste crossed out text?
Anywhere that accepts Unicode. That includes Discord, X, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, WhatsApp, Telegram, Reddit and most bios and comment fields. A few older systems that strip non-ASCII characters may drop the marks, so test once if you are unsure.
Why are spaces not crossed out?
The tool only adds a mark after non-whitespace characters, so spaces stay bare and the line does not stretch across the gaps between words. Letters, digits and punctuation all receive the mark; only whitespace is skipped.
Will screen readers and search still read the text?
Mostly yes, but with caveats. The base letters remain intact, so a search for the plain word can still match, and many screen readers read the letters and ignore the marks. Some assistive tools, however, announce each combining character or stumble on the sequence, so avoid this styling for anything that must be fully accessible.
Is this real strikethrough or a workaround?
It is a Unicode workaround, not the semantic strikethrough that HTML or a word processor produces. That is exactly why it works in plain-text fields that have no bold or strikethrough option. If you are writing in an editor that already has a strikethrough button, that native option is cleaner.
Does the character count change when I add marks?
Yes. Each decorated letter is now two code points, the letter plus its combining mark, so the string is longer than the original. On platforms with a character limit, such as X, decorated text uses up your allowance faster than plain text.
Can I undo the effect and get plain text back?
Not from this tool directly, but the marks are separable. Deleting the combining characters, or pasting into a field that discards non-ASCII input, returns the original letters. The base text is never altered, only overlaid.
Is my text private?
Yes. Everything runs in your browser with JavaScript, and nothing you type is uploaded or stored on a server.
