Frequently asked questions

How is the score I need calculated?

Your overall grade is a weighted average. The needed final score equals (desired minus current times one minus the weight) divided by the weight.

What does not achievable mean?

It means the required score is above 100 percent, so even a perfect final falls short. You would need to raise the goal or your current grade.

What if the result is zero or negative?

Then you have already locked in your target. Even a score of zero on the final keeps you at or above your desired grade.

Where do I find the final exam weight?

Check your syllabus or grading breakdown. It is usually listed as a percent, for example a final worth 20 or 30 percent of the course.

Does this work for a single test or a category?

Yes. Treat the upcoming assessment as the final and its share of the grade as the weight, and the math is the same.
