Each letter grade is converted to grade points, where A is 4.0, B is 3.0 and so on. Multiply each course's points by its credit hours to get quality points, add those across all courses, then divide by the total credit hours. The result is your weighted grade point average.

Courses worth more credit hours count for more of your average. A 4-credit class moves your GPA about four times as much as a 1-credit class, so the tool multiplies each grade by its credits before averaging rather than treating every course equally.

It is the common US scale where A equals 4.0 and F equals 0.0. Plus and minus grades fall in between: A- is 3.7, B+ is 3.3, B is 3.0, B- is 2.7, and the pattern continues down to D- at 0.7. The full table appears in the grade-scale panel below the tool.

A straight A is worth 4.0 grade points, while an A- is worth 3.7. That 0.3 gap pulls a course-weighted average down noticeably over a full transcript, even though both grades are strong.

Not on this scale. The tool caps the top of the scale at 4.0, so A+ and A are both worth 4.0 grade points. Some schools award a 4.3 for an A+, but that is not the standard 4.0 model used here.

Yes. The Credits field accepts half-credit steps, so a 1.5 or 0.5 credit course works. For a retake, enter only the grade your school actually counts, since this tool averages every row you add rather than applying a replacement policy.
