How is silver melt value calculated?
Multiply the weight by the purity fraction to get pure silver content, then multiply by the spot price per gram. A per ounce price is divided by 31.1034768 first.
What purity is sterling silver?
Sterling is 0.925, meaning 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, usually copper. Fine silver is 0.999 and US coin silver is 0.900.
Why do I enter the spot price myself?
The calculator is deterministic and private, so it never fetches live prices. Look up the current silver spot price and type it in for an accurate figure.
How many grams are in a troy ounce of silver?
