The weight is multiplied by the purity fraction to get pure silver content, then multiplied by the spot price per gram. A 100 g sterling piece at $0.80 per gram is 100 x 0.925 x 0.80 = $74.00.

It divides your ounce price by 31.1034768 to get a per-gram price first, then values the pure silver with it. A $25 per ounce quote becomes about $0.8038 per gram, which is why the Price used card is shown.

Sterling is 0.925, so 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metal, usually copper. Fine silver is 0.999 and US 90% coin silver is 0.900. Those are the three presets in the Purity menu.

Weigh the whole silver item, since purity already accounts for the alloy. Do not include clasps, stones, wooden handles or other non-silver parts, because the tool assumes the entire weight is at the purity you chose.

No. Plating is a microscopic layer over a base metal, so a plate item has almost no bullion content and no meaningful purity fraction. This tool is for solid silver marked with a fineness like 925, 999 or 900.
