Frequently asked questions

How is total diamond price calculated?

Total price equals carat weight multiplied by the price per carat. A 2 carat stone at $4000 per carat costs $8000.

Why is real diamond pricing not linear?

Larger diamonds are rarer, so price per carat jumps at key weights like 1 and 2 carats. A 2 carat stone usually costs far more than two 1 carat stones of the same quality.

What drives the price per carat?

The 4Cs: carat, cut, color and clarity. Two stones of equal weight can have very different per carat prices once cut grade, color and clarity are factored in.

Does this include setting or tax?

No. This is the loose stone price only. Add the setting, labor, certification and any sales tax separately for a final retail figure.

Can I use this for lab grown diamonds?

Yes. The math is the same; just enter the per carat price for the lab grown stone, which is typically lower than a natural diamond of equal specs.
