Blur an Image or a Region

Blur an entire image, or drag a box over a face, license plate, name, or address to soften just that area. Slide the blur strength up for a heavier effect and watch the preview update live. Because everything runs in your browser, sensitive images are never uploaded, which is exactly what you want when hiding private details.

How to blur an image

  1. Drop an image in, or click to browse.
  2. Choose whole image, or switch to region and drag a box over what to hide.
  3. Set the blur strength and download the blurred image.

Examples

Blur a face in a photo

A photo in region mode, with a box dragged over the face
The same photo with only the face blurred out

Frequently asked questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Blurring happens entirely in your browser. The image never leaves your device, which matters when you are hiding private information.

Can I blur just part of the image?

Yes. Switch to region mode and drag a box over the area you want to soften, such as a face or an address. Only that rectangle is blurred.

How strong should the blur be for redaction?

For truly hiding a face or text, use a high blur strength so no readable detail remains. A light blur can still leave recognizable shapes, so err on the heavier side.

Is the blur reversible?

No. The blurred pixels are averaged together and the original detail is discarded in the downloaded file, so it cannot be sharpened back.

What formats can I export?

PNG (lossless), JPEG, and WebP. PNG keeps the blur clean without adding compression artifacts, which is a good default for redaction.
