Add a Border to an Image
Frame any photo with a solid border in the color and thickness you choose. Set the width in exact pixels or as a percentage of the shorter side, pick from preset swatches or a full color picker, and watch a live preview update as you adjust. Export to PNG, JPEG or WebP straight from your browser, with the original image never leaving your device.
How to add a border to an image
- Drop an image onto the drop zone or click to browse. PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF and BMP all work.
- Drag the Border width slider, and use the px or % toggle to size the frame by pixels or by the shorter side.
- Pick a Border color with the color picker or one of the preset swatches.
- Choose PNG, JPEG or WebP output, and set Quality when exporting JPEG or WebP.
- Check the live preview and its pixel size, then click Download to save the framed image.

Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The border is drawn entirely in your browser with the Canvas API, so the image never leaves your device and no copy is sent to a server.
Does the image get bigger?
Yes. The border is added outside the original, so the output grows by twice the border width in both directions. A 40px border on a 1000px side gives a 1080px side, and the original pixels stay untouched.
How does the percent option work?
Percent is measured against the shorter side of the image, so 5% of an image whose shorter side is 800px equals 40px. This keeps the frame proportional whether the photo is small or large.
How thick can the border be?
In pixel mode the slider goes up to 300px, and in percent mode up to 50% of the shorter side. Set it to 0 for no border at all.
Which colors can I use?
Any solid color. Six presets cover white, black, rose, blue, green and yellow, and the color picker lets you dial in an exact hex value for a brand or theme.
Can the border be transparent?
The frame itself is always a solid color. For a see through margin, export as PNG and add transparent padding in an editor that supports an alpha channel, since a color swatch cannot be transparent here.
What output formats and quality can I pick?
PNG, JPEG and WebP. JPEG and WebP reveal a Quality slider from 5 to 100 percent so you can trade file size for detail, while PNG stays lossless.
Does adding a border reduce image quality?
No. The original pixels are copied in at full resolution and the frame is painted around them. Any quality change comes only from the export format and quality setting you choose, not from the border.
What does the downloaded file get named?
The tool appends -border before the extension and uses your chosen format, so photo.jpg exported as PNG downloads as photo-border.png.
