Wallpaper Calculator: How Many Rolls

Estimate wallpaper rolls for a wall. Enter the wall and roll dimensions in the same unit and a pattern repeat, then see strips per roll and rolls to buy.

How to estimate wallpaper rolls

  1. Enter the wall width and height in one unit, for example feet.
  2. Enter the roll width and length, and the pattern repeat if any.
  3. Read off the strips you need, strips per roll and rolls to buy.

Examples

12 ft wide wall, 9 ft high, roll 1.75 by 33 ft, 1.5 ft repeat

wall 12 x 9, roll 1.75 x 33, repeat 1.5
7 strips needed, 3 per roll, 3 rolls

Frequently asked questions

What is a pattern repeat?

It is the vertical distance before a wallpaper pattern repeats. You must add it to each strip's length so adjacent strips line up, which raises how much paper you use.

Why do I need full strips, not partial ones?

Each drop on the wall is a full strip cut from the roll top to bottom. Offcuts at the ends are usually too short to reuse, so the calculator counts whole strips.

Do the wall and roll units have to match?

Yes. Enter every dimension in the same unit, such as all feet or all meters. The math is unit free as long as you stay consistent throughout.

Why round rolls up?

Wallpaper is sold by the roll, so any leftover need rounds up to a full roll. Keeping a spare roll also helps if a strip is damaged or you patch later.

Does this handle a no repeat (random match) paper?

Yes. Set the pattern repeat to zero. Then each strip is just the wall height and you get the most strips per roll.
