Frequently asked questions

How is stride length estimated from height?

When you do not enter a stride, walking stride is about 0.413 of height for women and 0.415 for men, and running stride is about 0.65 of height.

How can I measure my real stride length?

Walk a known distance, count your steps, then divide the distance by the step count. A measured stride gives the most accurate result.

Why is the running distance longer per step?

Runners cover more ground per step than walkers, so the same number of steps maps to a greater distance when you choose running.

Is 10,000 steps always five kilometres?

No. The distance depends on your stride. With a 30-inch stride, 10,000 steps is about 7.6 km, while a shorter stride covers less ground.

Does this work for both miles and kilometres?

Yes. The tool always reports the distance in both miles and kilometres so you can use whichever unit you prefer.
