Running Pace Calculator

Enter how far you ran and how long it took to get your pace per kilometre and per mile, plus your average speed. Use it to plan race splits or check training runs.

How to use the running pace calculator

  1. Enter the distance you ran and pick kilometres or miles.
  2. Enter your finish time as hours, minutes and seconds.
  3. Read your pace per km, pace per mile and speed in km/h and mph.

Examples

5K in 25 minutes

Distance 5 km, time 25:00
Pace 5:00 /km (8:03 /mi), speed 12 km/h

10K in 50 minutes

Distance 10 km, time 50:00
Pace 5:00 /km (8:03 /mi), speed 12 km/h

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between pace and speed?

Pace is the time it takes to cover one unit of distance, shown as minutes per km or per mile, so lower is faster. Speed is distance covered per hour (km/h or mph), so higher is faster. They are two views of the same effort.

How do I convert pace per km to pace per mile?

One mile is 1.609344 km, so multiply your per-km pace by 1.609344 to get your per-mile pace. For example, 5:00 per km is about 8:03 per mile. The calculator does this conversion for you.

Can I use this to predict a race time?

Yes, as a rough guide. Find your pace from a recent run, then multiply it by your target distance. Most runners slow slightly over longer distances, so add a small buffer for half marathons and marathons.

What are common race paces?

A 5:00 per km pace finishes a 5K in 25:00, a 10K in 50:00, a half marathon near 1:45 and a marathon near 3:30. A 4:00 per km pace is roughly a 20:00 5K and a 2:49 marathon.

How do I work out even splits?

Run each segment at the same pace shown here. For a 10K at 5:00 per km, aim to pass each kilometre marker five minutes apart. Negative splits mean running the second half slightly faster than the first.

Is my data sent anywhere?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser, so your distance and time never leave your device.
