Frequently asked questions

What is running pace?

Pace is how long it takes to cover one unit of distance, shown as minutes and seconds per kilometre or per mile. A 5:00 /km pace means five minutes for every kilometre.

How do I convert min/km to min/mi?

Multiply your pace per kilometre by 1.609 to get pace per mile. This tool shows both at once, so you do not need to do the math yourself.

What pace do I need for a sub 4 hour marathon?

A four hour marathon needs about 5:41 /km or 9:09 /mi held for all 42.195 km. Enter the marathon distance and a 4:00:00 time to confirm the exact pace.

Does the calculator work in both miles and kilometres?

Yes. You can enter the distance in either unit and choose whether your pace is in min/km or min/mi. Results are always shown in both pace units.

Is my data private?

Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and nothing you enter is sent to a server or stored.
