Pallet Calculator

Plan a pallet load by seeing how many boxes fit per layer and how many layers stack within your height limit. Enter the box size, pallet size and maximum stack height to get boxes per layer, layers and the total.

How to calculate boxes per pallet

  1. Enter the box length, width and height in inches.
  2. Set the pallet footprint, commonly 48 by 40 in.
  3. Enter the maximum stack height in inches.
  4. Read the boxes per layer, the layer count and the total boxes.

Examples

Standard pallet, small box

48 x 40 pallet, 12 x 10 x 8 in box, 48 in stack
16 per layer, 6 layers, 96 boxes

Larger box, taller stack

48 x 40 pallet, 15 x 12 x 10 in box, 50 in stack
9 per layer, 5 layers, 45 boxes

Frequently asked questions

How is boxes per layer calculated?

The tool lays boxes in a grid and tries two orientations: boxes with their length along the pallet length, and boxes rotated 90 degrees. For each it multiplies how many fit along each pallet side, then keeps the orientation that fits the most boxes per layer.

What pallet size should I use?

The default is the 48 by 40 inch GMA pallet common in North America. Other regions use sizes such as the 1200 by 800 mm Euro pallet. Enter your actual pallet footprint in inches for an accurate layer count.

Why might a real pallet hold more boxes?

The calculator uses one box orientation per layer and does not rotate boxes out of plane or mix orientations within a layer. A skilled packer can sometimes interlock boxes or combine orientations to fit a few more, so treat the result as a reliable baseline.

Does the stack height include the pallet?

No. The stack height here is the room available for boxes above the pallet deck. If your overall height limit includes the pallet, subtract the pallet thickness, usually about 5 to 6 inches, before entering the stack height.

Is my data stored?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or saved, so your box and pallet sizes stay private on your device.
