Write posts that fit. Paste your text, pick a platform and field, and the counter shows your character count, the limit, how many characters remain and how many posts a long thread would need.

How to count social media characters

  1. Paste or type your post text.
  2. Pick the platform and field, such as an X post or Instagram bio.
  3. Watch the characters left and the post count update live.

Examples

Within the X limit

A 100-character post, X post (280)
180 characters remaining, 1 post

Over the X limit

A 300-character post, X post (280)
20 over, needs 2 posts

Frequently asked questions

Which platforms and limits are covered?

X posts (280) and Premium (25,000), Instagram captions (2,200) and bios (150), Facebook posts, LinkedIn posts and headlines, TikTok captions, YouTube titles and descriptions, Bluesky, Threads and more.

How are emoji counted?

By Unicode code point, so a single emoji counts as one character even though it uses two UTF-16 units internally. This matches how X and most platforms count.

How is the post count calculated?

When your text exceeds the limit, the tool divides the character count by the limit and rounds up, estimating how many posts a thread would take. Empty text needs no posts.

Why do platform limits sometimes change?

Platforms update their limits from time to time. The figures here reflect documented limits at the time of writing, so treat them as a close guide and confirm in the app when it matters.

Is my text private?

Yes. Everything runs in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
