Frequently asked questions
How many pages is 1000 words?
At 12pt in a Times New Roman style font with 1 inch margins, 1000 words is about 2 pages single-spaced or about 4 pages double-spaced. Larger fonts and wider faces push the count higher, so the result here is an estimate rather than an exact figure.
Why does my real document differ from the estimate?
Page count depends on margins, paragraph spacing, headings, lists, images and the exact font, none of which a word count alone captures. This calculator uses standard 1 inch margins and common per-page word figures, so treat the number as a close estimate, not a guarantee.
How does font size change the page count?
Words per page scale with the inverse square of the font size relative to 12pt, because letters take up area. A 14pt font fits roughly three quarters as many words per page as 12pt, while an 11pt font fits about a fifth more, so the page count rises with bigger text.
Why does the font family matter?
Some fonts are wider than others at the same point size. Times New Roman is compact and used as the baseline, Arial is a little wider so it fits fewer words per page, and a monospace font like Courier fits far fewer because every character is the same full width.
What counts as single versus double spacing?
Single spacing places lines directly under one another and fits about 500 words on a 12pt page. Double spacing leaves a full blank line between each line of text and fits about 250 words per page, which is why double-spaced documents run about twice as long.
