Frequently asked questions

How are initials chosen?

The tool takes the first letter of each word, splitting on spaces. So John Ronald Reuel Tolkien becomes JRRT.

How are hyphenated names handled?

By default hyphens count as word breaks, so Jean-Luc gives J and L. You can turn that off to treat it as one word.

Can I limit how many initials I get?

Yes. Set a maximum and only that many leading initials are kept, for example two letters for a simple monogram.

Can I add dots between the letters?

Yes. Choose a separator such as a dot to turn JRR into J.R.R, which suits formal styles and citations.

Does it keep accented letters?

Yes. An accented first letter such as the one in Emile is preserved, and you can keep the original letter case if you prefer.
