Puppy Weight Calculator
Estimate how big your puppy may get as an adult from its current weight and age in weeks. This is a rough linear projection, not a guarantee. Growth is not steady and varies by breed size, so treat the number as a ballpark and ask your vet or breeder for a breed-specific estimate.
How to use the puppy weight calculator
- Weigh your puppy and enter its current weight in pounds.
- Enter its current age in weeks.
- Read the estimated adult weight and the weekly growth rate so far.
Examples
10 lb puppy at 16 weeks
Current weight 10 lb, age 16 weeks
Estimated adult weight about 32.5 lb (growth rate 0.63 lb per week)
5 lb puppy at 12 weeks
Current weight 5 lb, age 12 weeks
Estimated adult weight about 21.67 lb
Frequently asked questions
How does this estimate work?
It takes the puppy's average growth so far, current weight divided by age in weeks, and projects that rate across a full 52 week year. So adult weight is roughly current weight divided by age in weeks, times 52.
How accurate is the result?
It is a rough ballpark. Real puppy growth is not linear, so the linear projection is best near the middle of the growth period and tends to overshoot for large breeds. Use it as a guide, not a promise.
Does breed size change the estimate?
A lot. Toy and small breeds finish growing by about 8 to 12 months, while large and giant breeds keep growing for 18 to 24 months. The simple projection does not know the breed, so adjust expectations for very small or very large dogs.
At what age is the estimate most reliable?
Estimates around 14 to 20 weeks tend to track adult size better than very early ones, since newborn and very young weights swing widely. Re-check the number as your puppy grows.
What is a healthy growth rate?
Steady, gradual gain with a visible waist and easily felt ribs is the goal. If growth looks too fast or too slow, or your puppy seems over or underweight, consult your veterinarian about diet and body condition.
