Image Compressor
Make images smaller without uploading them anywhere. Drag the quality slider and watch the file size and preview update live, or switch to target-size mode and let the tool find the highest quality that fits a size you choose (say 200 KB). Export as WebP, JPEG, or PNG and download. Re-encoding also strips EXIF and other metadata.
How to compress an image
- Drop an image in, or click to browse.
- Drag the quality slider, or enter a target file size and let it solve for you.
- Compare the size saved and download the compressed image.
Examples
Hit a 200 KB budget
A 3.4 MB JPEG photo, target 200 KB
WebP at the best quality that stays under 200 KB, ~94% smaller
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely in your browser with the Canvas API. The image never leaves your device, so private photos stay private.
How does target-size mode work?
It re-encodes the image at several quality levels and binary-searches for the highest quality whose file size still fits the target you set, usually in well under a second.
Which format should I pick?
WebP usually gives the smallest file at a given quality and supports transparency, so it is the default. JPEG is best for photos on older targets, and PNG is lossless (compression there comes mainly from re-encoding and dropping metadata).
Does compressing remove metadata?
Yes. Because the image is re-encoded from raw pixels, EXIF data including GPS and camera info is dropped, which also helps reduce the file size.
Will it blur my image?
Compression keeps the dimensions; only fine detail is traded for size at lower quality. The live preview lets you stop at the point where it still looks good.
