Frequently asked questions

How is overtime pay calculated?

Hours up to your standard week are paid at the regular rate. Hours beyond it are paid at the regular rate times the overtime multiplier. The two amounts are added for your total gross pay.

What does the 1.5x rule mean?

Time and a half means each overtime hour is paid at 1.5 times your normal hourly rate. In the United States the FLSA generally requires this for hours over 40 in a workweek for non-exempt employees. If you work 5 overtime hours at $20, that is 5 x $20 x 1.5 = $150.

What is double time?

Double time pays 2x your hourly rate for hours past a higher threshold, for example beyond 12 hours in a day in some states or contracts. Set the double-time threshold and those hours are priced separately from regular overtime.

Does this handle taxes or deductions?

No. The result is gross pay before income tax, payroll deductions and benefits. Use a take-home pay or paycheck calculator to estimate net pay.

Is my data private?

Yes. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your hours, rate and pay are never sent to a server or stored.

Do overtime rules vary by location?

Yes. Thresholds and multipliers differ by country, state and employment agreement. This tool lets you set your own standard hours and multipliers, so check your local rules and contract for the exact figures.
