  3. Optionally add ad spend or other costs, then read your net profit and margin.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate profit on a Shopify sale?

Add up your costs for the order (product cost, shipping you pay, the payment processing fee and any ad or packaging costs) and subtract that total from the selling price. Profit margin is that profit divided by the selling price.

Which costs should I include?

At minimum include product cost (COGS), shipping you absorb and payment processing fees. For a true picture, also add per-order ad spend, packaging, app fees and returns. This tool covers cost, shipping, processing and an 'other costs' field for the rest.

What are Shopify Payments fees?

For online card payments Shopify Payments commonly charges around 2.9% plus 0.30 per transaction on the Basic plan, with lower rates on higher plans. Rates vary by country and plan, so adjust the percentage and fixed fee to match your account.

Does this include Shopify's subscription or transaction fees?

No. The result is per-order profit and does not spread your monthly Shopify plan fee across orders. Shopify also waives its extra transaction fee when you use Shopify Payments, so only the processing fee applies here.

What is a healthy profit margin for ecommerce?

It varies by niche, but many ecommerce stores aim for a net margin of roughly 10 to 20 percent or higher after all costs. Thin margins leave little room for ads and returns, so use this calculator to test prices before you commit.
