Bigger packs are not always cheaper. Enter the price and quantity for each option to see the price per unit and which package is the better value.

How to compare unit prices

  1. Enter the total price and the quantity for the first option.
  2. Add a row for each other package you want to compare.
  3. Read the price per unit for each and see which option is highlighted as the best value.

Examples

Small pack vs large pack

Option A: $5 for 10. Option B: $7 for 20.
A is $0.50/unit, B is $0.35/unit, so B is the better value.

Frequently asked questions

How is price per unit calculated?

Price per unit is the total price divided by the quantity. $7 for 20 units works out to $0.35 per unit.

What counts as a unit?

Whatever you measure by: items, ounces, grams, sheets or milliliters. Just keep the unit the same across the options you compare.

What if two packages have the same unit price?

Both are flagged as the best value. When the cost per unit ties, pick based on how much you will actually use before it expires.

Why can I not enter zero or a negative number?

A package needs a positive price and a positive quantity to have a meaningful cost per unit, so those values are required.
