Audio Fade In and Fade Out
Smoothly fade an audio clip in from silence, out to silence, or both, right here in your browser. Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A, or OGG, set how long each fade lasts, and choose a linear ramp or an equal-power curve that keeps the perceived loudness steady. It is the clean way to soften a hard start, give a track a graceful ending, or remove an abrupt cut. Everything runs on your device, nothing is uploaded, and the result downloads as a WAV.
How to fade audio in and out
- Drop in an audio file, or click to browse for one.
- Set the fade-in and fade-out lengths and pick a linear or equal-power curve.
- Preview the faded clip, then download it as a WAV file.
Examples
Graceful ending
outro.wav that stops abruptly
A WAV with a three second fade-out so the track eases down to silence.
Frequently asked questions
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?
No. Nothing is uploaded. The file is decoded and faded entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API, so it never leaves your device. The faded clip is then encoded and downloaded locally.
What is the difference between linear and equal-power?
A linear fade changes the amplitude along a straight line, which can sound like it dips in the middle. An equal-power fade follows a sin or cos curve so the perceived loudness stays steady through the fade, which is why it is preferred for crossfades and smooth endings.
What audio formats can I fade?
MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, and other common audio files all work, because the browser decodes them before processing. You can also drop in the audio track of an MP4 or WebM video. The output is always a WAV file.
What happens if the fades are longer than the clip?
The fade-in and fade-out are clamped so they never overlap. If together they are longer than the clip, both are shortened proportionally so the fade-in finishes before the fade-out begins, and the audio stays clean.
Does fading reduce the audio quality?
No. Fading only adjusts the volume of the samples at the start and end; the untouched middle is copied exactly. The download is an uncompressed WAV, so there is no extra encoding loss.
