Title Tag Checker

Paste your page title to see its character count, an estimated pixel width, and a live Google-style preview. The checker warns you when the title is too short, too long, shouting in ALL CAPS, or stuffed with separators.

How to check your title tag

  1. Paste or type your page title into the box.
  2. Read the length, pixel width and status badge as you type.
  3. Fix any flagged issues until the title sits in the recommended range.

Examples

A title that fits

Best Running Shoes for Beginners: 2026 Buyer Guide
50 characters, well under the limit, with a clean pixel width and no issues flagged.

A title that gets cut off

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Best Running Shoes for New Runners on Any Budget
82 characters and over the pixel budget, so Google is likely to truncate the end.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ideal title tag length?

Aim for roughly 30 to 60 characters. Below 30 you under-use the space, and above 60 Google often truncates the title in desktop results. Around 50 to 55 characters is a safe target.

Why does this tool show pixel width as well as characters?

Google truncates titles by pixel width, not character count, at roughly 580 pixels on desktop. Wide letters like W and M take more room than thin ones like i and l, so two titles of equal length can fit differently.

How is the pixel width estimated?

Each character is given an approximate width based on its shape: very thin letters count for less, wide letters and capitals count for more. It is a close guide, not an exact measurement of Google's font.

Why avoid ALL CAPS and extra pipe separators in titles?

ALL CAPS reads as shouting, lowers trust, and uses far more pixels, so it truncates sooner. Several pipe separators look like keyword stuffing. One clear separator before your brand is usually enough.

Does title length change my rankings?

Length is not a direct ranking factor, but a clear, well-sized title improves click-through rate. If your title does not fit, Google may rewrite it, so a tidy title keeps your intended message visible.

Is my data private?

Yes. The checker runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere.
