Frequently asked questions

What is the ideal title and meta description length?

Aim for a title of about 60 characters or fewer and a meta description of roughly 120 to 160 characters. Those ranges usually display in full on desktop search results.

Why does Google truncate my title or description?

Google fits each result into a fixed-width box. When your text is longer than the available space, it cuts the line and adds an ellipsis so the layout stays consistent.

Does Google count pixels or characters?

Google actually measures pixel width, not character count, so wide letters like W and M take more room than thin ones like i and l. This tool uses character limits as a close, conservative guide.

Does title or description length change my rankings?

Length itself is not a direct ranking factor. A clear, well-sized snippet improves click-through rate, and Google may rewrite text that does not fit, so a tidy snippet keeps your message intact.

Will Google always use the description I write?

Not always. Google sometimes generates its own snippet from page content when it better matches the query, but a strong meta description is still your best chance to control the message.

Is my data private?

Yes. The preview runs entirely in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded or stored.
