Swimming Pool Volume Calculator
Find how much water your pool holds. Pick the shape, enter the dimensions in feet and the shallow and deep end depths to get the volume in cubic feet, gallons and liters.
How to calculate pool volume
- Choose your pool shape: rectangular, circular or oval.
- Enter the length and width, or the diameter for a round pool, in feet.
- Enter the shallow end depth and, if the floor slopes, the deep end depth.
- Read the water volume in cubic feet, US gallons and liters.
Examples
32 by 16 ft rectangular pool
32 ft long, 16 ft wide, 3 ft shallow, 7 ft deep
2,560 cubic feet, about 19,150 gallons (72,491 liters)
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the number of gallons in my pool?
Multiply the surface area by the average depth to get cubic feet, then multiply by 7.480519 gallons per cubic foot. This tool does the math for any common shape.
What is the average depth of a pool?
For a sloped floor it is the shallow depth plus the deep depth divided by two. A flat-bottom pool simply uses its single depth.
How do I measure a round or oval pool?
For a round pool measure the diameter across the center. For an oval measure the full length and the full width, and the tool treats it as an ellipse.
Why does knowing my pool volume matter?
Almost every chemical dose, salt target, heater run and pump turnover depends on the gallons. An accurate volume keeps every other calculation correct.
Does the result include the area below the waterline only?
Yes. Enter the depths to the water surface, not the top of the wall, so the volume reflects the water you actually treat and heat.
