  1. Enter the trip distance and pick miles or kilometres.
  2. Enter your fuel economy and choose mpg, L/100km or km/L.

Frequently asked questions

How is the fuel cost worked out?

The tool converts your distance and fuel economy to a common basis, finds the fuel volume the trip needs, then multiplies that by the price per gallon or litre.

Can I mix units like kilometres with mpg?

Yes. Distance, fuel economy and price each have their own unit selector, so any combination such as kilometres with mpg priced per gallon works correctly.

What does mpg, L/100km and km/L mean?

They are three ways to state fuel economy: miles per US gallon, litres used per 100 km, and kilometres driven per litre. Pick whichever your dashboard shows.

How does splitting the cost work?

Enter the number of people sharing the drive and the total fuel cost is divided equally, giving the amount each passenger owes.

Is this a round trip or one way?

It calculates the distance you enter. For a round trip, enter the total there-and-back distance, or double a one-way figure.
