Zodiac Sign Calculator

It uses the common western, or tropical, zodiac: the twelve signs from Aries through Pisces with their standard sun-sign date ranges. It is not the sidereal system used in Vedic astrology, which shifts the dates by roughly three weeks.

Aries 3/21 to 4/19, Taurus 4/20 to 5/20, Gemini 5/21 to 6/20, Cancer 6/21 to 7/22, Leo 7/23 to 8/22, Virgo 8/23 to 9/22, Libra 9/23 to 10/22, Scorpio 10/23 to 11/21, Sagittarius 11/22 to 12/21, Capricorn 12/22 to 1/19, Aquarius 1/20 to 2/18, and Pisces 2/19 to 3/20.

Each boundary day belongs to the sign whose range includes it, so there is no overlap here. Other sources place a few cusps a day earlier or later because the sun's crossing shifts slightly year to year, so a cusp birthday can read differently elsewhere.

Capricorn runs from December 22 to January 19, so its range spans the year boundary. The calculator treats that as a wrap, which is why both late December and early January dates such as January 5 return Capricorn.

Every sign is tied to one of four classical elements. Fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius, Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, and Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. Astrology uses these groupings to describe shared temperaments.

Yes. The day dropdown offers 29 days for February, so a leap-day birthday is accepted. February 29 falls inside the Pisces range, the same as the surrounding late-February dates.
