Candle Fragrance Oil Calculator

Find the right amount of fragrance oil for your candles. Enter the wax weight in ounces or grams and a load percent, and get the fragrance to add in both grams and ounces.

How to calculate fragrance oil

  1. Enter your wax weight in ounces or grams.
  2. Set the fragrance load percent, often between 6 and 10%.
  3. Read the fragrance to add in grams and ounces, then copy the result.

Examples

1000 g of wax at an 8% fragrance load

1000 g wax, 8% fragrance load
80 g of fragrance oil, about 2.82 oz

Frequently asked questions

What fragrance load should I use?

Most candles use a 6 to 10% load by wax weight, with 8% a safe default. Higher loads scent more strongly but can weep or affect the burn, so check your wax supplier's maximum.

How much fragrance per pound of wax?

At 8% load, one pound (16 oz) of wax takes about 1.28 oz of fragrance. At 10% it is about 1.6 oz. The calculator does this for any wax weight you enter.

Is fragrance measured by weight or volume?

By weight. Loads are a percent of the wax weight, so weigh both the wax and the fragrance on a scale rather than measuring fragrance by volume.

What is the maximum fragrance load?

It depends on the wax. Many soy and paraffin blends top out near 10 to 12% before the oil pools or weeps. Always follow the maximum on your wax data sheet.

Can I enter ounces and grams together?

Yes, but grams take priority if both are filled in. Enter just one to avoid confusion, and the result is given in both grams and ounces.
