Invoice Total Calculator
Invoice Total Calculator adds up line items and applies a discount, tax rate and shipping in the right order so the grand total is correct every time. Enter each item as a quantity and unit price, then set the percentages, and the tool shows a full breakdown: subtotal, discount, taxed base, tax and total. Every figure is rounded to two decimal places and the parts add up to the total shown.
How to calculate an invoice total
- Enter the quantity and unit price for your first line item.
- Click '+ Add item' for each extra product or service, or Remove to drop a row.
- Type a discount percent to take off the subtotal, or leave it at 0.
- Enter a tax percent charged on the discounted goods, and a flat shipping amount.
- Read the breakdown: subtotal, discount, taxed base, tax, shipping and grand total.

Frequently asked questions
In what order are the discount and tax applied?
The percentage discount comes off the subtotal first to give a taxed base, then tax is charged on that discounted base, and finally shipping is added. So for a $130 subtotal at 10% off and 8% tax, tax is 8% of $117, not of $130.
Is shipping taxed in this calculator?
No. Shipping is a flat amount added after tax is worked out, so tax only ever applies to the discounted goods. If your jurisdiction taxes shipping, fold that cost into a line item or the shipping figure yourself.
How is rounding handled across the breakdown?
Every money value, including the subtotal, discount, taxed base, tax, shipping and grand total, is rounded to two decimal places. The rounded parts are designed to reconcile to the grand total shown so the invoice foots correctly.
Can I leave the discount, tax or shipping blank?
Yes. Any of the three can stay at zero and it simply drops out of the math. With all three at zero the grand total equals the subtotal of your line items.
How many line items can I add?
As many as you need. Use '+ Add item' to append rows and Remove to delete them, though the tool always keeps at least one line. The subtotal is the sum of every quantity times its unit price.
Does it support fractional quantities and prices?
Yes. Quantities and unit prices accept decimals, so you can bill 1.5 hours at 45.50 per hour. Negative numbers and blanks are treated as zero rather than reducing the total.
Which currency does it use?
Amounts are formatted in US dollars for display, but the calculator is currency neutral. The percentages and arithmetic work the same whatever currency your prices represent.
Can this replace real invoicing or accounting software?
It is a quick estimator for a single invoice total, not a bookkeeping system. It does not store records, issue documents or handle multiple tax rates per line, so use dedicated invoicing software for compliance and record keeping.
Is my invoice data kept private?
Yes. All calculation happens in your browser and none of the quantities, prices or totals are uploaded to a server, so client figures stay on your device.
