Mole Calculator
Move between grams, moles and particle counts in one place. Give the calculator a mass with a molar mass, a number of moles, or a particle count, and it fills in every quantity it can derive.
How to use the mole calculator
- Enter the values you know: mass and molar mass, moles, or particles.
- Add a molar mass if you want grams and moles linked.
- Read the moles, mass, molar mass and particle count.
Examples
Grams of water to moles
mass = 18 g, molar mass = 18.015 g/mol
about 0.999 mol
Moles to particles
moles = 1
6.022 x 10^23 particles
Frequently asked questions
How do you convert grams to moles?
Divide the mass in grams by the molar mass in grams per mole: moles = mass / molar mass. For 18 g of water that is 18 / 18.015, about 0.999 mol.
What is Avogadro's number?
It is the number of particles in one mole, exactly 6.02214076 x 10^23. Multiply moles by this number to get the particle count.
How do I get particles from moles?
Multiply the amount in moles by Avogadro's number. One mole of any substance contains about 6.022 x 10^23 particles.
Why do I need a molar mass?
Molar mass is the bridge between grams and moles. Without it the tool can still link moles and particles, but it cannot work out a mass in grams.
What units does this use?
Mass in grams, molar mass in grams per mole, amount in moles, and a plain count of particles. Use a molar mass calculator if you need the molar mass first.
