Frequently asked questions

How are calories per serving calculated?

Divide the total calories of the whole dish by the number of servings it makes. This tool rounds the result to the nearest whole calorie.

How many calories are in each macronutrient?

Protein and carbohydrate provide about 4 calories per gram, and fat provides about 9 calories per gram. Alcohol, not used here, has about 7.

How do I count total recipe calories?

Add up the calories of every ingredient as used. Most packaged foods list calories per 100 g or per portion, which you scale to the amount in the recipe.

Why do my macro calories differ from the label total?

Labels round each value and may include fiber or alcohol differently. Small gaps between summed macros and the stated total are normal.

Does serving size affect the result?

Yes. Calories per serving depend entirely on how many servings you cut. More, smaller servings mean fewer calories in each one.
