Frequently asked questions

How is prorated rent calculated?

Divide the monthly rent by the number of days to get a daily rate, then multiply by the days occupied. $1,500 over a 30-day month is $50 per day.

What is the difference between the methods?

Actual days uses the real month length, the 30-day method always divides by 30, and the yearly daily method uses rent times 12 divided by 365.

Which method should I use?

Use whatever your lease specifies. The actual-days method is the most common, while a flat 30-day rate is simpler and slightly favors longer months.

Are the amounts rounded?

Yes. The daily rate and the prorated rent are both rounded to the nearest cent.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
