Frequently asked questions

What is net worth?

Net worth is the value of everything you own minus everything you owe. It is a single number that snapshots your overall financial position at a point in time.

What is the difference between assets and liabilities?

Assets are things of value you own, like cash, investments, property and vehicles. Liabilities are debts you owe, like a mortgage, car loan, student loans and credit card balances.

What should I include in my net worth?

Include the current market value of cash and bank accounts, investments and retirement funds, property, vehicles and other valuables on the asset side, and all outstanding loan and credit balances on the liability side.

Should I track my net worth over time?

Yes. A single figure means little on its own, but tracking it monthly or quarterly shows whether your finances are trending up or down and helps you measure progress toward goals.

Can my net worth be negative?

Yes. If your debts are larger than the value of your assets, your net worth is negative. This is common early on, for example with a large mortgage or student loans, and usually improves as you pay debt down.

Is my data private?

Yes. Everything is calculated in your browser. The values you enter are never sent to a server or stored.
