Frequently asked questions

Does it handle daylight saving time?

Yes. The offset for each zone is calculated for the exact date you enter, so daylight saving shifts are applied automatically when they are in effect.

What time zones can I use?

Any IANA zone your browser supports, such as America/New_York, Europe/London or Asia/Tokyo. The picker lists common zones, and the engine accepts the full IANA database.

Why do the UTC offsets change?

A zone's offset can change across the year because of daylight saving time. New York is UTC-5 in winter and UTC-4 in summer, so the converter recomputes the offset for your chosen date.

What is UTC and why does it matter?

UTC is Coordinated Universal Time, the global reference with no daylight saving. Every zone is defined as an offset from UTC, so converting between two zones is really converting through UTC.

Why might the date roll forward or back a day?

When the time difference crosses midnight, the converted date moves. Converting noon in New York to Tokyo lands at 02:00 the next day because Tokyo is many hours ahead.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser using built-in time zone data, so nothing you enter leaves your device.
